Medical Disclaimer
Important information about Tourist SOS, the SOSA AI assistant, our coordination services, and the limits of what we can and cannot do for you in a medical situation.

Emergency Medical Disclaimer
LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCIES: Call your local emergency services immediately — 911 (US), 112 (EU/UK), 999 (UK), 1669 (Thailand), 119 (Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore), or the equivalent local emergency number wherever you are. Tourist SOS is not an emergency dispatch service.
Tourist SOS provides an AI-powered coordination platform for tourist medical situations. We help connect travelers with vetted local healthcare providers, facilitate insurance verification and billing, and coordinate non-immediate emergency response. We are not a healthcare provider, hospital, clinic, ambulance service, or emergency medical service (EMS). Our Services are not a substitute for professional medical care, diagnosis, or treatment.
Always seek immediate medical attention from qualified healthcare providers for any medical condition or emergency. Do not disregard, avoid, or delay obtaining medical advice from a qualified clinician because of information or services provided through Tourist SOS — including information generated by SOSA, our AI assistant. Reliance on any output of our platform is solely at your own risk.
Meet SOSA
Most interactions with Tourist SOS go through SOSA, our artificial intelligence assistant. SOSA runs across our website chat, mobile applications, and the platforms our partner clinics, hotels, and operators use. Whether you press SOS in our app, send a message from a hotel front desk, or ask a question on the marketing site, you are talking to SOSA first.
Before relying on any output, please understand exactly what SOSA is — and what it is not.
SOSA is:
- • An AI assistant that helps you describe symptoms and get oriented
- • A tool to find vetted local providers based on your situation
- • A coordinator for insurance verification and billing workflows
- • A multilingual translator across 30+ languages
- • An information layer that compiles relevant local context
SOSA is NOT:
- • A licensed medical professional or clinician
- • A diagnostic system
- • An emergency dispatcher (911, 112, 1669)
- • A replacement for in-person clinical evaluation
- • A guarantee of provider availability or quality
For the full legal framework around SOSA, see Section 5 of our Terms of Service and Sections 2.4, 3.3, and 8.2 of our Privacy Policy.
Nature of Tourist SOS Services
Tourist SOS operates a coordination platform anchored by SOSA and delivered through four customer-facing surfaces: SOS Travel (consumer app for travelers), SOS Pro (clinics, hospitals, transport providers), SOS Safe (hotels, resorts, tour operators), and our internal Command Center (operations and partner integrations). Our current operational footprint includes countries across Southeast Asia, with continued expansion. Service availability and scope vary by location.
What we provide:
- • AI-powered intake, triage, and case structuring (via SOSA)
- • Connection to vetted local healthcare providers
- • Coordination of medical transport and evacuation logistics
- • Translation across the parties involved in a case
- • Real-time insurance verification and claims coordination
- • Documentation of case events and outcomes
- • Partner integration for insurers, TPAs, and hospitality operators
What we do NOT provide:
- • Direct medical treatment, diagnosis, or prescription
- • Emergency medical services (ambulance, paramedics, EMS dispatch)
- • Medical advice or treatment recommendations
- • Replacement for local emergency services
- • Insurance coverage (we coordinate with your existing insurer)
- • Guarantee of provider availability, pricing, or care outcomes
- • Substitute for in-person clinical evaluation
SOSA AI Limitations
4.1 Not a clinical decision-maker
SOSA does not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or make clinical decisions. SOSA captures and structures information, suggests local providers, and helps you communicate — but every clinical decision rests with a licensed healthcare professional, not with the AI.
4.2 Outputs are informational, not medical advice
Anything SOSA tells you — about providers, conditions, costs, insurance, or care options — is conversational and informational. It does not constitute medical, legal, financial, or insurance advice. Verify before acting, especially for time-critical or high-stakes decisions.
4.3 AI hallucinations are possible
Like all current AI systems, SOSA can occasionally produce inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or fabricated information. We continuously evaluate and improve SOSA, but we make no warranty of correctness for any specific output. If something SOSA says does not match your situation or contradicts what a clinician tells you, trust the clinician.
4.4 Not for life-threatening time-critical decisions
Do not rely on SOSA — or any Tourist SOS service — to dispatch emergency help in a life-threatening situation. The latency of an AI conversation is not compatible with seconds-count emergencies. Call your local emergency number, then come back to SOSA for coordination once you are safe.
4.5 Translation is imperfect
SOSA supports many languages, including specialized medical terminology. Machine translation can still mistranslate idiom, dialect, dosage, or cultural context. For high-precision communication with clinicians, request a human interpreter or local provider familiar with your language.
4.6 Human oversight on serious cases
High-severity cases are reviewed by our internal operations team via the Command Center. SOSA outputs may be edited, escalated, or overridden by human operators where clinical or operational judgment is required. The presence of automated outputs does not relieve us of the duty to review serious cases with care.
Medical Service Limitations
5.1 No doctor-patient relationship
Tourist SOS does not employ, contract with, or supervise licensed medical professionals for the purpose of providing direct patient care. Use of our Services — including conversations with SOSA — does not create, and shall not be construed as creating, a doctor-patient, therapist-patient, or any other healthcare provider relationship between you and Tourist SOS. All clinical decisions, diagnoses, and treatments must be made by qualified, independently licensed healthcare providers at your location.
5.2 Information accuracy
We strive to provide accurate and up-to-date information about healthcare facilities, providers, costs, and services. We cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of all information. Healthcare standards, availability, regulatory environments, pricing, and acceptance of insurance vary significantly across the countries in which we operate, and they can change without notice. Independently verify critical information whenever possible before relying on it.
5.3 Response time limitations
Coordination response times vary based on location, local infrastructure, weather, political conditions, and the availability of local providers. Tourist SOS does not guarantee specific response times. In remote areas, on small islands, during natural disasters, or in jurisdictions with limited connectivity, response may be significantly slower than in major urban centers.
5.4 Local regulations
Our Services are subject to the laws, regulations, and healthcare policies of each country we operate in. Some services may not be available in certain jurisdictions or under certain circumstances (for example, where local law restricts AI in healthcare contexts, or where cross-border medical evacuation is regulated).
5.5 No insurance coverage
Tourist SOS is not an insurance company and does not provide insurance coverage. We coordinate with your existing insurer (and with third-party administrators where applicable) to verify coverage and process claims, but we do not pay claims, guarantee coverage, or substitute for an insurance policy.
About Our Provider Network
6.1 Vetting is initial, not ongoing
We maintain relationships with healthcare providers, hospitals, transport operators, and hospitality partners across our coverage regions. We perform initial vetting — verifying licensing, capability, and operational standards — before adding a provider to the network. Vetting is not ongoing supervision. Provider standards can change, and we re-evaluate the network periodically rather than continuously.
6.2 Providers are independent
Healthcare providers in our network operate independently under their own licenses, employ their own clinicians, set their own clinical protocols, and determine their own pricing. Connection through Tourist SOS does not create an employment, contractor, agency, partnership, joint venture, or supervisory relationship between us and the provider.
6.3 Connection is not endorsement
Routing or connecting you to a provider through our platform does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation, or warranty of that provider's services, clinical competence, billing practices, or outcomes. The provider remains solely responsible for the care it delivers.
6.4 Verify before treatment when you can
When circumstances allow — and especially for non-immediate care — we encourage you to verify provider credentials, insurance acceptance, and out-of-pocket costs before treatment. SOSA can help you ask the right questions; the provider must give you the answers.
6.5 No guarantee of availability
We cannot guarantee that a specific provider will be available, accept your insurance, speak your language, or operate within a specific timeframe. In urgent situations we route to the best available option; in non-urgent situations, we present choices.
Emergency Response Protocols
Step 1: Call local emergency services
For life-threatening emergencies, always call your local emergency number first — 911 (US), 112 (EU/UK), 999 (UK), 1669 (Thailand), 119 (Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore), or the equivalent.
Step 2: Open Tourist SOS
Once the immediate threat is being handled, open SOS Travel or talk to SOSA on our website. SOSA will help structure the case, find ongoing care, verify insurance, and coordinate with the responders or hospital that picks you up.
Step 3: Stay in the loop
Tourist SOS coordinates ongoing care, billing, and follow-up. SOSA will keep you updated on the case status; our internal Command Center team is in the loop on high-severity cases.
Data sharing in emergencies
In life-threatening or urgent situations, Tourist SOS may share necessary medical information with healthcare providers, emergency services, and (where authorized) family members or designated emergency contacts to facilitate appropriate care. Sharing is limited to information essential for the response. See Section 4.4 of our Privacy Policy for the details.
Cross-border coordination
For medical evacuations or cross-border transfers, Tourist SOS coordinates across multiple healthcare systems, insurers, and (where required) consular and regulatory authorities. Delays are inherent to cross-border medical logistics; we manage them but cannot eliminate them.
International Considerations
8.1 Healthcare standards vary
Clinical standards, equipment, training, and access to specialty care vary significantly between countries — and often between regions within the same country. A capability that is routine in a Bangkok hospital may not be available in a rural Lao clinic; a procedure that is standard in the EU may be regulated or unavailable elsewhere. We surface what is locally available; we cannot create capacity that does not exist.
8.2 Regulatory differences
Healthcare regulation, AI regulation, data protection, prescription rules, and medical evacuation frameworks differ by jurisdiction. Some Tourist SOS features may be limited or unavailable in certain countries due to local law (for example, rules on AI in clinical decision support).
8.3 Insurance acceptance varies
Travel insurance, international health insurance, and local insurance schemes are accepted differently by providers in different countries. SOSA verifies what we can in real time, but providers and insurers retain final authority over coverage and payment. Cash-pay scenarios are common abroad even when you have coverage at home.
8.4 Currency, billing, and payment
Pricing for medical services may be quoted and billed in local currency, and exchange rates fluctuate. Tourist SOS coordinates billing where possible but does not control currency conversion, foreign transaction fees, or payment method acceptance.
8.5 Embassy and consular services
For certain cross-border situations — death of a traveler abroad, repatriation of remains, criminal incidents, document loss — the right counterpart is your country's embassy or consulate, not Tourist SOS. Where appropriate, SOSA or our Command Center will connect you to consular services, but consular functions are outside our scope.
Your Responsibilities
Tourist SOS works best when both sides hold up their end. By using our Services, you agree to:
- • Provide accurate information. Symptoms, medical history, allergies, medications, location, and insurance details — accuracy materially affects the quality of care you receive
- • Call local emergency services first for any life-threatening situation, before opening SOSA
- • Verify critical information with the treating provider directly when time allows — pricing, coverage, prescriptions, follow-up instructions
- • Disclose pre-existing conditions and current medications to the provider, even if SOSA already has them on file
- • Maintain your travel and health insurance independently — Tourist SOS does not replace insurance coverage
- • Follow professional medical advice from the licensed clinician treating you, even if it differs from what SOSA suggested
- • Use the platform in good faith. Do not submit knowingly false information, attempt to manipulate SOSA, or use our Services for non-emergency purposes during an active emergency situation
Limitation of Liability
10.1 Coordination services only
Tourist SOS provides coordination, AI assistance, and platform services only. We do not provide medical care. We are not liable for the quality, availability, timeliness, or outcomes of medical care provided by third-party healthcare providers, hospitals, clinics, transport operators, or emergency services. All medical decisions are made solely by the treating providers.
10.2 Third-party services
We are not responsible for the acts, omissions, negligence, or malpractice of healthcare providers, ambulance services, transport operators, hospitality partners, insurers, or any other third parties involved in your case. Any referral or connection to a third-party provider through our platform does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation, or guarantee of that provider's services.
10.3 AI and technology limitations
Our Services depend on AI systems, telecommunications infrastructure, internet connectivity, GPS availability, third-party AI providers, and technology systems that may be affected by natural disasters, pandemics, political instability, government actions, supply chain issues, model provider outages, or technical failures beyond our reasonable control. We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or always-available service. SOSA outputs are subject to the limitations described in Section 4.
10.4 Assumption of risk
You acknowledge that international travel inherently involves risks to personal health and safety, and that medical care abroad involves risks distinct from care in your country of residence. By using our Services, you voluntarily assume all risks associated with your travel activities and any medical decisions made based on the coordination we facilitate.
10.5 Maximum liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Tourist SOS's aggregate liability for all claims arising from or relating to our Services is limited as set forth in Section 9.4 of our Terms of Service. That cap controls; this Medical Disclaimer does not increase or expand it. This limitation applies regardless of the form of action — contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or otherwise.
10.6 Mandatory law carve-out
Nothing in this Medical Disclaimer is intended to exclude or limit any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable mandatory law in your jurisdiction (for example, liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or non-waivable consumer-protection rights).
